Bienvenue Byamungu

Co-Founder & Executive Director

Bienvenue survived deadly bloodshed and violations of human rights when rival tribes attacked the village where Bienvenue lived in 1995 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). DRC is reported as the worst place to be a woman or a child. A place where rape is used a “weapon of war,” and children are soldiers. To Bienvenue who witnessed this kind of human right violation, the 2011 United Nations report that 1,000 women are raped daily is an underestimation. The source of his passion for women empowerment that he now practices in P4T is unpleasant to remember. He was separated from his parents and he suffered bloodshed before reaching Uganda. More than six million of Bienvenue’s friends and natives have been killed in his home area; he was among the few survivors to reach the refugee camp in Uganda. After living in Uganda for 10 years, Bienvenue Byamungu started P4T in 2007 when he was only 17 years old. Today, P4T has supported over 340 youth and women in handwork, built a Nursery and primary school that provides quality education to over 305 underprivileged refugee Orphans and vulnerable children, constructed latrines to over 35 refugees living with disability. Bienvenue is passionate about community development and gender equality and he is currently pursuing a diploma in Development studies at Gulu University.

Ameny Daniel

Co-Founder & Programs Director

Daniel comes from Orientale Province in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He grew up in a highly political environment since his father was an influential political activist. He did not bury his father who was kidnapped by armed men in plain clothes in 1996 when he was just 10 years old. After repeated attacks at his home by armed soldiers who were demanding for his elder brother (who had disappeared earlier); Daniel fled from his home with his younger brother and sister to Uganda, an uncertain journey which lasted for about three months, leaving their mother behind. Daniel and his siblings reunited with their elder sister who was married to a Ugandan Army in Northern Uganda and they suffered more violence by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). In 2001, Daniel got registered as a refugee in Kyangwali Refugee Settlement where he joined a team that founded P4T. This was after realising that the refugee communities had suffered in poverty and dependence on support agencies for 10 complete years, without any hope of returning home. They started P4T to create a home away from home for refugees. Daniel holds a Bachelor of Statistics Degree from Makerere University and a Master of Science degree in Environmental Health from Nkumba University. He is currently a part-time lecturer at the Department of Applied Sciences in Nkumba University and a Statistics Consultant with Datasoft Consultancy. “Anyone in any community can drive positive change regardless of their social or economic status, all they need is that empowerment to make them believe in themselves that they can”

Johnam Kambasu

Co-Founder & Finance Director

I am Kambasu Johnam, a Ugandan male age 5th Feb 1987. I was born in Kasese district located in Western Uganda bordering Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to the East. I am a graduate of Bachelor of Business Administration majoring in Accounting from Nkumba University in Uganda. I started work as an accountant at Lake Victoria View Guest House after finishing my course in August 2012. I later joined Steel and Tube Industries Ltd in 2014 as an accountant. In 2015 I joined Datasoft Consultancy as a research assistant and accountant. At the same time I was volunteering with P4T as a Finance and Administrative officer. I was appointed Finance Director for P4T in 2016. I was introduced to P4T by Mr. Khalid who I met while studying at Nkumba University. He introduced himself as a refugee from DRC on sponsorship at the University. When he narrated his story to me I was very touched and we became good friends and then he told me they have a community based organization (C.B.O) helping refugees in Kyangwali Refugee Settlement and I told him I wanted to help. I was inspired to join Planning for Tomorrow Youth Organization (P4T) because I was picked from Kasese by my uncle at a very tender age to live with him in Kampala where I have studied since 1998. At the time I left Kasese I had witnessed over 5 incidences of war from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) a rebel group in Uganda and DRC. I witnessed the death of people including my relatives at a very tender age and those memories will never get out of my head. Because of this experience I was inspired to join P4T in order to help the refugees and build the tomorrow we all desire.
